The situation

The Clearwater Bar Foundation is the charitable arm of the Clearwater Bar Association, founded in 1930 and dedicated to equal access to the judicial system for Pinellas County residents. Its work is broad: educational seminars on constitutional rights and court procedure, funded student legal internships, partnerships with legal aid and pro bono attorneys, and the community fundraising that pays for all of it.

The existing site did not do that work justice. It was slow to load, hard to navigate on a phone, and structured in a way that made it difficult for a visitor to understand what the Foundation does or how to support it. For an organization that depends on donations and volunteer attorneys, a site that buries the ask is a real cost.

What we set out to fix

Three things, in order of how much they mattered to the Foundation. Usability first: a visitor should understand the mission in seconds and find the donate, volunteer, and event paths without hunting. Speed second: a nonprofit site is often opened on a phone, on a weak connection, by someone who was not planning to spend long. Search third: the Foundation's programs should be discoverable by people looking for exactly that kind of help in Pinellas County, which means a structure search engines can parse.

What we did

We rebuilt the site from the ground up rather than restyling the old one. The information architecture was reorganized around what visitors actually come to do, with the mission, programs, and ways to give each given a clear home and a direct route from the homepage. Navigation was simplified so that nothing important sits more than one click away.

The build is static, generated with Astro and deployed to Cloudflare's edge network. Pages are pre-rendered HTML with minimal scripting, images are optimized and sized for the device requesting them, and there is no server to slow down or fall over. Every page carries proper semantic structure, descriptive titles and metadata, and a sitemap, so search engines see a clean, well-labeled site rather than a tangle of markup.

Why it matters for a nonprofit

For a nonprofit, the value of a site is measured in what it returns: donors who find the ask, volunteers who find the form, people who find the help they came for. The Foundation gets a site that is fast, secure, and easy to update, with Sylerity handling the hosting, monitoring, and upkeep, so the board's attention stays on the mission rather than the technology behind it.

Outcome
  • A clear, mission-first structure with direct paths to donate and get involved
  • Fast, responsive pages that hold up on a phone and a weak connection
  • Semantic, crawlable markup with proper metadata and a sitemap for search
  • Fully managed by Sylerity: hosting, monitoring, and upkeep handled
  • A foundation the Foundation can grow on as programs and events change
